Yamaha’s goal with the engine in the Wolverine X4 was to make it quiet, compact, controllable and quiet with low vibration.
The 2018 Wolverine X4 is powered by an all-new 847cc DOHC, eight-valve, inline twin-cylinder motor. It idles at a low 1300 rpm, and a high-end muffler is also used to quiet down the Wolverine X4.
The air-filter system was designed so intake air noise is reduced, and the Ultramatic CVT is set to upshift at lower rpms. To improve efficiency, the engine features a dry-sump design, which also allows for a compact layout.
Rubber engine mounts and a geared counterbalancer are used for smooth running from idle to redline.
Here’s a video that tells more about how Yamaha engineered the Wolverine X4 to be quiet.
