The John Deere Gator XUV560 and XUV590 are Deere’s mid-sized Crossover Utility Vehicles.

The XUV560 and XUV560E S4 are powered by an air-cooled 16-hp V-Twin engine and have a top speed of 28 mph. The XUV590E/XUV590M and XUV590E S4/ XUV590M S4 have inline twin, liquid-cooled engines and top out at 45 mph.

They have an automotive-style digital dash that include 18 attributes, such as speed, hourmeter, and alerts for the driver’s seatbelt and parking brake.

Deere Alpha and Numerals Deciphered

Trying to figure out the numbers and letters in the John Deere vehicle naming system is easy once you understand what they represent. The CUVs use a similar naming system as the Deere tractors: The first letters, XUV, are obvious, standing for Crossover Utility Vehicle. The next three numbers are for the relative metric engine horsepower: the 560 XUVs are actually listed as 570cc and the XUV590s are shown as 586cc. The finally letters indicate capability and/or price level within its family. Letters at the beginning of the alphabet indicate a model withh lower levels of capabilities and/or features in comparison to other models in its family. So an “M” will have more features than an “E”. The S4 tacked on the end means it seats four.
