Caterpillar says that this summer it’s introducing its first-ever UTVs, the gasoline-powered Cat CUV82 and the diesel-powered CUV102D.
The work-oriented Caterpillar UTVs will come in either a gas-fueled version, the CUV82, or a diesel one, the CUV102D.
The gas-powered CUV82 is expected to have a max speed of 45 mph, a 50-hp engine and a 1000-lb rear-cargo capacity. It will be able to quickly maneuvering over rugged terrain, but it will also have a 25-mph Configurable Speed Setting, since this is a job-site-oriented UTV.
Caterpillar says the diesel-powered CUV102D will have a 1000-lb-capacity steel cargo bed and 4-wheel independent suspension (and so will the CUV82). It will be designed for stable load hauling and transport over any terrain. It will have a max speed of 25 mph and four-wheel independent suspension system with a front sway bar for stability at full load. A long swingarm suspension and custom-tuned springs and shocks will add to ride quality and handling loads.
Here is Caterpillar’s intro video of the pair of UTVs:
Cat Utility Vehicles – The You in UTV
The Cat is already “out of the bag,” actually, and a prototype Cat UTV is being used by Frattalone Companies in their multiyear, multiphase professional-sports-center project in Egan, Minnesota.
The project subjected the prototype Cat to some pretty harsh conditions – extreme cold and freeze/thaw cycles, plus a lot of rain and mud during the spring.
Here’s the video that shows the Cat Utility Vehicle on site with Frattalone Companies:

Note: Frattalone added a GPS beacon to the top of the UTV’s cab for topographical surveying of the site.
