The UTV class is in its second year in Dakar and it is growing. Last year there were eight starters, five Polaris RZRs and three Yamaha YXZ1000Rs, and this year there are 11 entries in the class that was called SSV/UTV in 2017, but is now simply called Side by Side (SxS) class for 2018.
For its 40th edition, the 10th to be held in South America, the Dakar rally is revisiting the Pacific Ocean and the dunes of Peru, which drivers and riders will tackle after a few days enjoying the sights and sounds of the capital, Lima.
Competitors will then head through to Bolivia, for a welcome rest day in the festive atmosphere of La Paz. Then it is on to Argentina, where the winners will be crowned in Córdoba on January 20, 2018.
Here is short video of the current UTV machines of the 2018 edition of Dakar.

The adventure began back in 1977, when Thierry Sabine got lost on his motorbike in the Libyan desert during the Abidjan-Nice Rally. Saved from the sands in extremis, he returned to France still in thrall to this landscape and promising himself he would share his fascination with as many people as possible. The founder coined a motto for his inspiration: "A challenge for those who go. A dream for those who stay behind." Courtesy of his great conviction and that modicum of madness peculiar to all great ideas, the plan quickly became a reality. Since then, the Paris-Dakar, a unique event sparked by the spirit of adventure, open to all riders and carrying a message of friendship between all men, has never failed to challenge, surprise and excite.
